Effectively screens and refers donor related telephone calls and triages these calls to the appropriate procurement, transplant or development personnel. Provides hospital personnel and all callers with prompt, efficient processing of incoming and outgoing calls. Utilizes best practice to fully optimize organ and tissue referral and donation potential. Approaches families regarding the process of donation. Obtains consent from the family for tissue and/or bone donation after presenting the donation option. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.
Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in a health related field and/or one to three years related work experience with families and patients in grief/crisis situations preferred. Sensitivity to grieving families and the ability to provide support and information to those families facing the decision to donate is required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology required. Must be proficient in computers, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be customer-service oriented. Because the Donor Center operates on a 24-hour basis, mandatory overtime may be necessary. Must have the ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations. An understanding of and commitment to the organ and tissue donation process is essential.
