  • Overview

    Oversees training of new and current employees. Provides ongoing cross- training for Donor Coordinator staff. Effectively screens and manages donor referrals and other related telephone calls. Serves as primary reference for Donor Coordinators for potential issues or questions that arise during the off-shifts. Provides guidance to Donor Coordinators in the conduct of their daily activities. Serves as a model for excellent customer service. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

    Responsibilities

     

    Provides ongoing education to new and existing staff to ensure that they remain current with criteria in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.Creates, maintains and updates training modules, competencies and all required training documentation. Conducts annual competency evaluations.

     

    Maintains detailed and current knowledge and understanding of the criteria for consent and tissue donation as well as,the mechanisms used to determine a potential donor’s suitability for tissue donation and consent.

     

    Maintains detailed and current knowledge and understanding of the criteria for allocation and organ placement in order to monitor allocation activities.

     

    Regularly monitors the status of ongoing cases and receives report on new cases to ensure that workload is distributed evenly among the Coordinators. Maintains awareness of Coordinators’ interactions with customers and co-workers and provides intervention and guidance as necessary. Performs the functions of a Donor Coordinator as needed.

     

    Participates in Quality Improvement activities related to the tissue screening and consent processes.

    Assists in the review of all charts for accuracy and completion, in real time, as well as for the final review prior to chart being given to the Quality Assurance department. Reviews cases before turnover to ensure accuracy in screening. Advises staff regarding any immediate corrections for documentation accuracy.

     

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in a health related field and three years related work experience within a health care setting. Minimum of 1-year supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to make sound clinical assessments in a fast- paced environment required.

     

    Must have excellent interpersonal skills and customer-service orientation.
