The Lead Recovery Practitioner (LRP): for LiveOnNY serves as the primary procurement practitioner performing organ procurements and to enhance the efforts of LiveOnNY in its primary goal of procuring organs, and tissues for transplantation and research throughout LiveOnNY’s service area. The LRP serves as a key ambassador for donation by modeling and controlling the intraoperative behavior of all recovery team members.
Ensure organ recovery procedures, both Donation after Brain Death (DBD) donors and Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) donors, meet organizational standards for organ recovery and transplantation.
Practices preoperative safety measures, in accordance with standard safety and regulatory surgical processes and procedures
Perform surgical organ recovery to organizational and national standards for organ transplantation. Serves as the primary procurement practitioner for organs as assigned.
Maintain current knowledge of LiveOnNY policies and procedures concerning the OR process and the surgical recovery of postmortem organs.
Provide consultation regarding the safety and suitability of donor organs and communicates with transplant centers as necessary to discuss potential issues in organ anatomy post procurement.
Inspects, prepares, and dissects kidneys in alignment with optimizing organ placement for transplantation.
Responsible for inspecting the body cavity for abnormalities that necessitate pathological evaluation.
Adheres to organizational and national standards and performance measures for surgical procurement of abdominal organs.
Arbitrate transplant team related difficulties during the donor procurement procedure when necessary.
Participate in the investigation and resolutions of occurrences of a medical nature.
Aid in the training of LiveOnNY surgical recovery staff as assigned.
Provide ongoing training regarding surgical technique, anatomy, dissection of research organs.
Routinely participates in clinical case review conferences to educate staff and provide feedback regarding organ donor management issues, the organ recovery process and transplantation.
Fulfill duties outside of case activities including availability and attendance at in-office activities, trainings, educations, in-services and managing schedule appropriately.
Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Medical Degree with current New York State Licensure, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Surgical Technologist First Assistant or have prior documented surgical recovery experience. Strong decision-making capabilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
CPTC and CTP certificates preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret healthcare regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of healthcare professionals and the general public.

This position requires extensive on-call responsibilities and the ability to work extended periods of time and overnight. Must maintain mental activity after being awake for extended periods of time.
Travel by personal automobile, emergency transport or air is possible. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to drive under all conditions.
