Overview

The Practice and Training Specialist:  is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, delivering, and evaluating orientation for newly hired staff and the on-going training and development of the Family Engagement staff. The specialist serves as a consultant and mentor to all of Clinical Operations as it relates to Family Engagement. Supports and fosters the mission, vision, and core values of LiveOnNY and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

This is an in-office role.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains current knowledge of educational and training requirements, as well as best practices for Family Engagement. Ensures that staff training aligns with current policy and practices.

  • Develop, facilitate, and analyze the effectiveness of LiveOnNY’s departmental education and development, utilizing varying platforms to ensure best practices and adult learning principles, to deliver quality training programs.

  • Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the coursework (didactic, on-line, simulated, etc.) for Family Engagement staff including the authorization training program.

  • Supports training as needed and assigned across all Clinical Operation departments to provide continuity of training coverage.  

  • Coordinates orientation and onboarding process of newly hired/transferred staff. Develops and maintains clinical resource materials.

  • Assists in the development and design of a preceptor program, for qualified staff, to train and mentor staff.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of competency evaluation tools that reflect the performance standards of an employee for successful completion of the introductory period and annual assessments.

  • Provide onsite response to advocate for donation and support families through the organ and tissue donation process.

  • Services as a Family Service Lead

    • Daily case management for potential donors by reviewing the dashboard, use of family readiness, and approach indicators

    • Manage daily activity in collaboration with Referral Administrator and Clinical Ops Leadership

    • Serves as a resource to LiveOnNY staff through coaching and debriefing on donation conversation and process

  • May serve as “Senior On-Call” for overnight emergent phone approaches, high priority, or level one referral onsite family needs, including but not limited to emergent approaches, OR family support, Honor Walk support, etc.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties of a Family Support Advocate is required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS in counseling, psychology or social services, crisis intervention, or education or two years’ experience in organ procurement consent, with proven track record, required. Master’s degree in social work, or related field, is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of the dynamics of grief and bereavement.
  • Experience in trauma/critical care setting helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret healthcare periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to prepare documents, write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of personnel, customers, and the public. Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated project management and excellent interpersonal skills required. Must be able to design and implement training programs to suit a variety of learners and learning styles. Ability to research information, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of the principles of critical care. Knowledge of and ability to function in hospital setting. Ability to work with individual(s) in a bereavement/crisis, good interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a team member.
  • Time Management and good organizational skills required.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Salary Range: $105,000-$125,000
