Overview

The Senior Donor Coordinator: Effectively screens, triages and refers incoming donor related telephone calls in accordance with established procedures. Provides hospital personnel and all callers with prompt, efficient processing of incoming and outgoing calls.

 

Utilizes best practice to fully optimize organ and tissue referral and donation potential. Approaches families regarding the process of donation. Obtains consent from the family for tissue donation after presenting the donation option.  Coordinates tissue allocation after screening for medical suitability. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Responsibilities

Senior Donor Coordinator Responsibilities:

 

Maintains all the skills required to perform the Donor Coordinator position including, triaging incoming
calls, collecting hospital and patient information, evaluating suitability, documenting extensive
medical/social history, inputting and reviewing referral information.


Immediately directs organ referral calls to appropriate Clinical Referral Coordinator.


Discusses screening information with Shift Leader or AOD, as appropriate.


Offers families the opportunity to donate in accordance with LiveOnNY’s protocols.


Interacts with death and grieving families in a caring and professional manner. Maintains authorization
and approach levels consistent with at least 90% of departmental goals.


Obtains and documents medical/social history provided by next of kin.


Places status follow- up calls to hospital staff on pending tissue referrals.

 

Coordinates all aspects required for donation to occur, including coordinating the recovery process
with other participating agencies such as eye and skin banks, hospital, medical examiner/coroner,
transportation vendors, and funeral home directors.


Notifies Tissue Recovery Team Leader and appropriate staff regarding Tissue authorization and
donation.

 

Completes a huddle with Shift Leader/AOD on dashboard activities.

 

Makes an initial quality assurance check of completed documentation and assists Donor Coordinators
with chart completion.

 

Works with Quality Systems department to ensure all necessary information is
provided.


Completes required paperwork associated with referrals and shift report for Donor Center Manager.
Utilizes medical information from remote EMR access to obtain and evaluate available medical records
for tissue/eye suitability.


Assists in precepting and offering guidance to new Donor Center staff.


Attends and participates in required departmental meetings, trainings and process improvement
initiatives.


Completes special projects and data requests as needed.

Qualifications

Senior Donor Coordinator Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field or/and Associate’s degree required

 

1-3 yrs related work experience with families and patients in grief/crisis situations required

 

Strong knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations is required

Salary Range: $59,797 - $74,746
