The Transplant Coordinator: mobilizes the initial organ donation process and works to maximize organ donation suitability in assigned hospitals within LiveOnNY's service area.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates potential organ donors at referring hospitals to determine medical suitability for organ and/or tissue donation through medical record review. Completes physical assessment and the donor evaluation via electronic donor record (EDR).
  • Respond to referrals at area hospitals evaluating potential organ donors for medical suitability and offering the opportunity of donation to potential donor families in a compassionate and respectful manner.
  • Works with health care team members to ensure that each family is offered the opportunity of organ and tissue donation at the appropriate time and in a compassionate and respectful manner; provides information and approaches families about the donation process so that the family can make an informed decision in support of donation.
  • Consult and collaborate with hospital medical staff to provide optimal medical management of potential donors and to maximize organ suitability.
  • Completes documentation and quality assurance for assigned cases per LiveOnNY policy in a timely manner.
  • Participates in formal and informal inservice training and educational programs with hospital personnel to create awareness and to facilitate the donor process; assists with review and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Allocate donated organs to transplant centers, in accordance with UNOS policies, and coordinate multi-organ recovery procedures.
  • Make transportation arrangements for surgical teams, schedule OR time, assist with the need for temporary privileges, supplies and equipment needed for surgery.
  • Work to promote awareness and education about organ and tissue donation to healthcare professionals and the general public through hospital development and community outreach.

 

Qualifications

  • Licensed NYS RN with minimum one-year experience in critical care or trauma/ emergency setting.
  • Minimum of two years previous progressive clinical OPO experience may be substituted.
  • Current certification in BLS and ACLS required and PALS preferred. 
  • The ability to perform duties during scheduled three-12 hour shifts (7:30 pm-8am) is essential. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle.
  • Must possess excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills as well as a high level of maturity, stamina and self-motivation.
  • Sensitivity to grieving family members, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member required.

Salary Range: $93,000-$105,000

 

There is a 10% shift differential for night shift(s) per hours worked
