The Vice President of Tissue Bank Operations provides direct oversight of the strategic and operational leadership of all tissue donation activities, including donor referral intake, call center operations, tissue authorization, and the tissue recovery process. This role integrates oversight of both front-end donor engagement and back-end clinical recovery, ensuring seamless coordination, regulatory compliance, and optimal donor outcomes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership for the Tissue Recovery Services and Donor Center, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and industry best practices, driving continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Overseeing the strategic direction for key operational functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and efficient resource use.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to increase tissue authorization and donation rates, improving operational workflows, and strengthening team integration.
  • Tracking key performance indicators such as donor conversion rates, recovery outcomes, case timeliness, and adverse events.
  • Leading and supporting teams responsible for day-to-day operations, focusing on performance and initiatives that optimize the referral, authorization and tissue recovery processes and outcomes.
  • Managing budgets, analyzing financial performance, and making data-driven decisions to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the tissue bank.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contracted tissue bank partners, suppliers, healthcare professionals, regulatory agencies, and industry organizations.
  • Overseeing relationships with medical examiners and funeral homes, ensuring positive relationships and effective communication.
  • Ensuring the tissue bank has adequate staffing levels and provides oversight on hiring, training, and development of staff.
  • Developing, reviewing, and approving employee training programs to ensure operational competence and regulatory compliance.
  • Overseeing the implementation and evaluation of donor suitability assessment criteria, technical policies, and procedures in compliance with FDA, DOH and AATB.
  • May require occasional evening/weekend hours and participation in response to critical incidents and travel within service area for hospital relations, site visits, donor recoveries, and staff supervision.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in tissue banking, organ donation or related healthcare industry with a minimum of 5-years in a leadership capacity and an in-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and compliance standards, including those of the FDA, state health departments, CMS and the AATB.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to drive results.
  • Knowledge and ability to function in a hospital operating room. 
  • Sensitivity to grieving family members; good interpersonal skills.  Ability to teach and coach and work effectively as a team member.

Salary Range: $195,000- 230,000 annually
