The Field Case Development Manager promotes organ and tissue donation for transplantation through onsite leadership of Donation Coordinators, collaboration with hospital partners, and oversight of donor management and organ placement activities. This role ensures operational excellence, staff development, and strong hospital relationships while advancing LiveOnNY’s mission and public awareness of organ and tissue donation. The Field Case Development Manager performs all Donation Coordinator duties as assigned and provides onsite clinical and operational leadership across the department. The role facilitates processes that promote, preserve, and increase organ and tissue donation opportunities by ensuring prompt, accurate, and effective evaluation of referrals, potential donor management, and organ recovery.

 

The Field Case Development Manager works closely with physicians, healthcare team members, Clinical Leadership, Family Services, Hospital Services, Surgical Recovery, Allocation and Placement, and other LiveOnNY staff to ensure case evaluations, donor management, organ recovery, documentation, and communication meet organizational, ethical, and regulatory expectations.

 

The Field Case Development Manager must maintain a residence within LiveOnNY’s designated service area and maintain readiness to travel to assigned donor hospitals in a timely manner, including immediate response upon assignment or reassignment, in support of donor evaluation, donor management, recovery coordination, surge response, or operational needs.  

 

The role may involve off-shift work, extended shifts, and holiday coverage and requires proficiency in independent, self-directed clinical practice while collaborating in-person and virtually with other LiveOnNY personnel and donor hospital medical care and administrative personnel. All work assignments must remain aligned with LiveOnNY policies and operational needs.  

 

Responsibilities

Hospital Response, Evaluation & Case Development

  • Serve as a clinical resource for Case Development staff including team assignment and deployment, assessment and evaluation, consent processes, donor management,  organ placement, and recovery.
  • Perform all Donation Coordinator duties as needed, including participation in operating room organ recovery to support hospital teams, anesthesiology, and surgical staff.
  • Coordinate case evaluation, maintenance, organ recovery, packaging, and transport in collaboration with hospitals, surgical teams, laboratories, and transplant centers.
  • Audit/review potential active, completed and donor case outcomes to identify quality improvement opportunities , timely staff compliance and implement process enhancements.

Donor Management & Enterprise Coordination

  • Manage teams working within donor hospital to obtain information regarding the patient’s hospital course and relevant clinical indicators in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Collaborate with LiveOnNY leadership, Medical Director, transplant centers, and hospital staff to support optimal donor management and maximize organ suitability.
  • Provide timely feedback to donor hospitals regarding donor evaluation status, plan of care, and next steps as directed.
  • Coordinate notification and escalation pathways to appropriate LiveOnNY leadership or subject matter experts when cases progress or require additional review.
  • Maintain closed-loop communication to support continuity and operational awareness.

Family Support & Authorization

  • Support Family Engagement Services as necessary to communicate with grieving families with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure families are offered the opportunity for organ and tissue donation at the appropriate time and in a compassionate, respectful, and legally compliant manner.
  • Provide families with accurate and comprehensive information regarding the donation process to support informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical judgment, and sensitivity when interacting with grieving families.

Recovery Coordination

  • Serve as a primary onsite liaison among internal teams, hospitals, and external partners to maintain effective communication during donor cases.
  • Collaborate with internal LiveOnNY teams and/or transplant center designees to provide accurate medical information to transplant centers in accordance with OPTN policies.
  • Ensure all recovery activities are conducted in compliance with CMS regulations, OPTN guidance, FDA requirements, and LiveOnNY policies.
  • Communicate effectively with onsite teams and hospital services for coordination of recovery.

Documentation, Quality Assurance & Professional Practice

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all donor activities in collaboration with internal departments and in compliance with CMS, OPTN, and LiveOnNY policies and procedures.
  • Review and recommend policies and procedures related to clinical operations and donor management.
  • Support and participate in continuous quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold LiveOnNY’s financial, fiscal, and operational policies.
  • Participate in case reviews, quality initiatives, audits, and process improvement efforts as directed.
  • Maintain required competencies through mandatory training, annual evaluations, continuing education, and competency validation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Registered Nurse Mandatory License and Bachelor preferred
  • 4–5 years of related clinical experience, including:
    • ICU, ED or critical care experience preferred
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of donor management, operating room procedures, and hospital environments.

  • Ability to analyze clinical data, apply statistical concepts, and solve complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to healthcare professionals and the public.

Salary Range: $93,315- $118,000 annually
