Overview

The Director, Donation Operations Clinical Practice Development (SME) provides corrective action when deficiencies are identified, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulatory standards including CMS Conditions for Coverage, OPTN policies, FDA regulations, and applicable New York State laws.

 

GOVERNANCE RELATIONSHIP

 

 

LiveOnNY maintains a structured governance model separating education system oversight from subject matter expertise to ensure workforce education and training programs remain operationally accurate, instructionally sound, and regulatory defensible.

 

The Director, Donation Operations Clinical Practice Development is responsible for governance of the organization's education system, including the Learning Management System (LMS), instructional design standards, curriculum architecture, certification frameworks, competency validation methodologies, and training documentation. 

 

Operational knowledge, professional practice standards, and domain-specific expertise that inform education programs are developed in collaboration with designated Subject Matter Experts {SMEs) embedded within operational functions across the organization. 

 

This governance structure ensures that LiveOnNY's education system remains instructionally consistent and auditable while the subject matter expertise informing training content remains grounded in real-world operational practice across LiveOnNY's programs and services. 

 

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Clinical Practice Development

Analyze Case Development, donor evaluation and management, and recovery operational workflows, including associated decision-making and escalation processes, to identify and codify best practices that inform organizational guidance and training supporting the maximization of organ donation, organ recovery, and transplantation.

Translate complex operational practices into clear, structured guidance that supports workforce competency, operational consistency, and disciplined execution across Donation Operations.

Identify emerging operational practices, workflow improvements, and lessons learned from case experience that should inform workforce training and operational guidance.

 

 

Operational Knowledge Development for Workforce Education

Develop subject matter content derived from operational practice that informs workforce education and training programs.

 

Collaborate with the Donation Operations Education and Training department to ensure operational knowledge is accurately translated into:

  • curricula and learning modules
  • simulation exercises and case-based learning scenarios
  • competency validation tools
  • operational job aids and reference materials
  • continuing education content

Provide instruction and subject matter teaching for clinically based personnel across Donation Operations in collaboration with department leadership and the Donation Operations Education and Training department, with particular focus on Case Development operations.

Ensure training materials reflect real-world operational practice and evolving regulatory expectations.

 

Practice Guidance and Operational Documentation

Support the development and refinement of operational guidance informing workforce practices acros Donation Operations.

Assist in translating operational experience into structured documentation such as:

  • operational practice frameworks
  • workflow guidance
  • decision-support tools
  • operational job aids

Ensure operational guidance remains aligned with LiveOnNY's organizational strategy and regulatory expectations.

 

Regulatory Alignment 

Ensure that operational practices reflected in workforce education remain aligned with regulatory expectations affecting Organ Procurement Organizations. 

Maintain working knowledge of regulatory frameworks and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies governing organ donation, organ recovery, and transplantation activities, including but not limited to:

  • CMS Conditions for Coverage for Organ Procurement organizations
  • OPTN policies and operational requirements 
  • HRSA oversight expectations 
  • FDA requirements 
  • applicable federal and New York State healthcare regulations 

Assist leadership in interpreting the operational implications of regulatory changes affecting donation operations practice and ensure training and practice guidance remain consistent with regulatory requirements.

 

Workforce Competency and Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with operational leadership and education teams to identify workforce knowledge gaps, operational challenges, and opportunities for practice improvement.

Support the development of training interventions addressing emerging operational needs.

 

Ensure lessons learned from operational performance reviews and case experience are translated into workforce training and competency validation where appropriate.

 

Organizational Collaboration

Provide subject matter expertise to leadership and teams across Donation Operations.

Participate in operational reviews, performance improvement initiatives, and practice development discussions.

Serve as a resource supporting consistent interpretation of clinical donation operations practice across the organization.

 

Audit Readiness and Regulatory Review Support

Support organizational readiness for regulatory surveys, internal reviews, and external audits by ensuring operational practice content reflected in education and training programs remains accurate and defensible.

Provide subject matter expertise during regulatory reviews and internal governance processes as requested.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

Required 

Registered Nurse (RN) or advanced clinical credential with a current, unrestricted license where applicable. 

Minimum of ten (10) years of clinical experience in emergency medicine, urgent care medicine, transplantation, critical care, in an acute care hospital-based environment or related clinical practice within an Organ Procurement Organization, transplant program, or acute care hospital environment. 

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in clinical education operations, healthcare operations, or related healthcare leadership roles in case triage, patient evaluation and management, and coordination of care across multidisciplinary clinical teams. 

Strong understanding of clinical decision-making processes, escalation pathways, and interdisciplinary coordination within high-acuity healthcare environments supporting time-sensitive clinical care. 

Demonstrated experience analyzing clinical workflows and translating operational practice and clinical experience into structured guidance, training content, or workforce education materials.

 

CLINICAL AND OPERATIONAL EXPERTISE

Advanced knowledge of clinical care coordination and operational workflows supporting complex, time-sensitive clinical environments.

Demonstrated ability to analyze operational processes and identify opportunities for practice development, workflow improvement, and operational consistency.

 

Ability to translate complex clinical and operational practices into structured guidance supporting workforce education and competency.

 

REGULATORY KNOWLEDGE

Working knowledge of regulatory and policy frameworks, including:

     •   CMS

  • HRSA
  • FDA
  • Federal and New York State healthcare regulations

 

Ability to translate regulatory expectations into operational practice guidance and workforce education content.

 

LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION

Demonstrated ability to function as a senior clinical subject matter authority within complex healthcare scenarios.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex clinical and operational concepts into clear guidance and training content.

Ability to collaborate effectively with operational leadership, education professionals, compliance teams, and executive leadership.

 

PREFERRED

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

Experience contributing to workforce education programs, competency validation frameworks, or simulation-based training environments.

Experience within an Organ Procurement Organization, transplant program, or related transplant clinical environment.

Work Location

The LiveOnNY Corporate Office is the designated work location essential to this role.

Work From Home or Remote Work is not a standard arrangement and is prohibited unless explicitly authorized in writing by the Chief Operating Officer.

The Director, Donation Operations Clinical Practice Development, is expected to devote 100% of professional time and attention to the responsibilities associated with this role. Outside employment, consulting engagements, or professional activities that interfere with the performance of the duties of this position are prohibited unless expressly authorized in writing by LiveOnNY.

 

The Director, Donation Operations Clinical Practice Development, must remain available to fulfill leadership responsibilities during and outside normal business hours as operational needs dictate.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000
